Well, T. Shacks... I'm just glad someone dislikes Ceci as much as I do.

A couple weeks ago while watching a Sens game, and Ceci was on the ice for a goal against, I texted a friend, "Another minus for Ceci." He replied with Ceci's TOI at that point during the game, suggesting that having that high of a TOI must mean he's good and the coach trusts him. My reply? "Ceci leads all Sens in TOI tonight? Yeah. That's probably why we're down 4-2."

I honestly don't know what Boucher sees in him.

Pretty sure the only people who like Ceci are dorion and Boucher. I’d say 97% of the fan base gave up on him like 2-3 years ago.

So was Hockey Night in Canada trolling the Senators last night?

@TSNSteve
Why have they been using the 1977 Trooper song "Here for a Good Time" on this broadcast so much tonight? Is there a back story I missed?

Probably referring to Matt Duchene’s tenure as an Ottawa Senator.

@TSNSteve
You may be on to something there. "Here for a Good Time Not a Long Time," might well be HNIC's attempt at humour, mocking the Sens' Karlsson and UFA situations. Why else would they play it so many times during the broadcast tonight?

They could also be mocking the sharks......could only have karlsson for 1 year if they don’t figure out some serious cap issues they’ll have on resigning him

I don't know how Dorion, and especially Melnyk like Ceci's contract. He's making close to 5million per season. Then again, I don't think Melnyk even likes players who get paid market value.

Tkachuk isn't the guy who should be in Bellevegas, it should be Lajoie. If he isn't putting the puck in the net, he's a MA Bergeron clone atm.

I thought the Sens played a solid game and the D was okay.

Thinking of next year, I have no doubt that Jaros is a player, he has the physical strength to make a difference in his own end and can work his way into a top 4 rotation. I think Harpur also provides a needed physical presence in front of and behind the net. Not sure if he plays top 4 minutes.

DeMelo and Wolanin are okay.

Chabot is an elite talent.

So, the Sens should be looking very hard at where Lajoie, Ceci and Borowiecki fit into the mix. Also, Bernard-Docker is getting rave reviews for his play at North Dakota.

If there is a demand for Ceci, it probably makes sense to trade him. I have no doubt that he will perform better in another setting. Not sure if he is another Larry Murphy but he does share an undue burden of criticism for the Sens overall defensive struggles.

Critics, even objective observers, develop an antecedent willingness to see things consistent with the evolving narrative. Coaches and scouts like Ceci's play. Amateur observers say he is not very good. I suspect we will find out soon enough who is right.

Bang on. It is exasperated by the fact that Boucher has decided to go with Ceci and Lajoie as his shutdown pair. He has positioned both to fail.

Lajoie was playing great until he got anchored to Ceci. Rather than send him down, give him a partner that doesn’t make EVERYONE he plays with worse.

When healthy, I’d love to see

Chabot - demelo
Lajoie - wolanin
Jaros - Ceci

Would actually like to see Ceci gone, but I’m a realist and know he’ll be in the lineup

Very solid game by Ottawa in San Jose. The defensive zone structure has vastly improved recently and gap control was generally very good.

Wolanin has looked very good since his return from Belleville. His defensive game is quite solid these days. Lajoie would benefit for going to play for Troy Mann in Belleville as his defensive zone play has been erratic for the past 15 games or so.

Ottawa needs to trade Ceci and put the savings towards a Mark Stone contract. Stone is the guy that Ottawa needs to sign to provide leadership to the younger players for what will likely be a lengthy rebuild. Trade Dzingel, Duchene and Ceci. We will bottom out the following 2 years and hopefully get a couple of very high end players.
